It was a tough weekend for the tricolor youth teams, as none of them managed to secure a victory. The Youth team competed closely against Lleida, but a lack of accuracy and some key moments condemned them. The U-16 team faced second-placed Mollerussa and put up a strong fight, but a goal early in the second half made the difference. Finally, the U-14 team dominated in many phases of their game but was outdone by Baix Segrià's effectiveness from set pieces.
U-13 0-3 Lleida | A Result Too Harsh
The Youth team lost to Lleida in a match that was much closer than the scoreline suggests. The visitors started by dominating possession but failed to create real danger, while the tricolors defended well and, after the first quarter of an hour, took control of the game. Although they reached the final third with relative comfort, clear-cut chances and accuracy in the final pass were lacking.
Andorra saw a legitimate goal disallowed in the dying moments of the first half after a good play from Pere to Solanes. In the second half, the tricolors came out strong and had two great chances to take the lead: Aarón came close to scoring, and Yedid hit the crossbar with a free-kick. But just as the locals were looking their best, Lleida took the lead in an unfortunate sequence—a lateral free-kick that resulted in an own goal.
With the score at 1-0, Andorra remained true to their strategy, but Lleida extended their lead with an individual effort from their striker and sealed the match with a throw-in that was allowed to pass through the area, finding an unmarked player who scored the final 0-3.
Lleida played a great game, both offensively and defensively, with a very compact and solid block that earned them the victory in Andorra. Despite the adverse score, the tricolors earned the right to a better result, hitting the woodwork four times and having a goal disallowed that could have changed the course of the match.
U-16 0-2 Mollerussa | A Loss with Positive Feelings
The U-16 team lost narrowly to Mollerussa, the second-placed team in the category, in a very solid performance by the tricolors. The visitors showcased their quality, but Andorra competed at a high level and had the best chance of the first half with a header from Xavi Alonso that hit the post after a cross from Román.
The tricolors were solid in defense, suffering at times against Mollerussa's direct style of play, but they managed to contain the opponent and went into the break level. Just after the restart, a midfield loss led to a quick counter-attack from Mollerussa, who opened the scoring with a great shot from outside the box. The second goal came from a corner, where the team failed to clear the ball, and after a series of rebounds, the opposing team scored again.
Rather than sinking, Andorra reacted and played their best football, pinning Mollerussa in their own half. Although no clear chances were created, they finished the match with the feeling of having competed head-to-head with one of the best teams in the league. This is a path to follow for the remaining nine matches of the season.
Escola de Futbol Baix Segrià 4-2 U-14 | A Harsh Punishment
The U-14 team lost to Baix Segrià in a match where they had control of the ball and created a lot of danger, but their lack of effectiveness and set-piece situations worked against them. Despite dominating possession and playing mostly in the opponent's half, Andorra couldn’t turn their chances into goals, while the home team capitalized on theirs very well.
The first half was highly contested, ending 2-2, with Andorra trying to impose their game and Baix Segrià benefiting from two corner kicks. Additionally, the locals took the lead through a controversial play where a previous foul was not called before the goal.
In the second half, the tricolors came out determined to turn the game around, and after going 3-2 down, they pushed for an equalizer, but soon after, Baix Segrià struck again from another corner kick, sealing the match with a fourth goal.
Despite the loss, the team showed positive signs with their style of play and their ability to generate danger. They will need to improve their effectiveness in both boxes to turn this possession into points.
