The president of FC Andorra, Ferran Vilaseca, visited the headquarters of the Josep Carreras Foundation against Leukemia this Tuesday, where he personally presented the prestigious tenor and founder, Josep Carreras, with an official club jersey and one of the solidarity armbands worn by the first team during their matches over the past month, as part of the awareness campaign jointly promoted with the foundation.

The meeting served to gain firsthand knowledge of the work that the Josep Carreras Foundation has been carrying out for over 35 years in the fight against leukemia and other oncohematological diseases. The organization promotes scientific research projects, manages the Bone Marrow Donor Registry (REDMO), and supports patients and families throughout the course of the illness.

This work also has a direct impact in the Principality. Currently, 674 Andorran donors are part of REDMO, and thanks to the foundation's efforts, compatible donors have been located for Andorran patients in 34 search processes, resulting in 20 transplants. Additionally, more than 14 patients from the country have been able to stay in the accommodation provided by the organization for those who need to travel for treatment, while 11 others have been assisted through their Unstoppable Hotels. In total, more than 1,400 Andorrans are currently collaborating with the foundation.

After the visit, Ferran Vilaseca highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives that have a real impact on people's lives: “We were aware of the work of the Josep Carreras Foundation, but being able to see it up close makes you appreciate even more everything they do. Moreover, it is a task that also helps many families in Andorra. For us, it is a pride to have been able to collaborate with this campaign and contribute to raising awareness about it.”

The campaign launched during the month of May has served to raise awareness about the fight against leukemia and the work that the Josep Carreras Foundation carries out every day to support patients and families.
