A bad second half cause the first home defeat

Andorra did not start 2025 on the right foot and in the first home match they broke their good streak at Estadi Nacional with a tough defeat against Athletic B. The tricolours paid dearly again for their lack of accuracy in the final shot and saw how the Basque team knew how to punish a poor second half by Andorra with two goals.

In the first 45 minutes, Ferran Costa's team were superior to their opponent. Lautaro was the first to try it with a shot that did not find the goal and a few minutes later Sergio Molina tried it again. But the clearest opportunity of all came just before the half hour mark with a shot by Josep Cerdà that hit the post.

Just in the previous move, Manu Nieto and Bomba had trouble finishing a ball that had been left dead in the goal area and, even before the break, Álvaro Martín was also very close to scoring. For their part, Athletic threatened with some isolated attempts but without any clear shot that required the intervention of Nico Ratti.

Andorra could have gone into the break ahead on the scoreboard, but the truth is that they did not come out with the same momentum as the first half in the second half. Thus, the away team took advantage of it to take a step forward and enjoy a couple of clear shots in the first minutes of the second half, the most dangerous, a shot on the post.

The tricolours responded with a shot by Álvaro Martín that did not find the goal and a few minutes later it was Lautaro who was also unable to direct his shot between the three posts. Until the 69th minute came the blow in the form of a goal by Ibon Sánchez. The 0-1 left the tricolours very touched, who, despite this, were able to equalize with a ball that fell to Lautaro in the area. The striker rushed forward, however, and goalkeeper Santos blocked his shot.

With Andorra desperately searching for an equalizer, the Basque squad managed to seal the game in the 89th minute, while in added time, Manu Nieto missed a penalty that he himself had caused.
