Beto Company: "We have arrived and we must maintain it, that is the challenge"

Coach Beto Company speaks to the media ahead of matchday 30, after the team secured a play-off spot last weekend.

"First of all, we broke the psychological barrier of the play-off. Every week we were asked about it, and I always said we needed to get there and stay there. Now comes the second part and this week's challenge."

"The other day, we played a very complete match, but small details punished us. Their goal came from a poorly defended goal kick and a small margin of accuracy. In the end, we left satisfied after facing a very good team."

"This week, I think we're playing against another team that will pose a different challenge, but one that will still be very difficult. If we look at the stats, it's true that we are in a very good run of form, but it's also true that, in the second half of the season, they have earned one more point than us. We are not playing against an 15th-place team, but against one that has actually earned more points than we have."

"It will be a very difficult match, just like all of them in this league. It’s a great challenge to have closed a five-point gap since we arrived in the play-off race. And not just against one team, but several, which makes it even harder. But the biggest challenge is staying there."

"The emotional factor is very important in such evenly matched games. We’ll try to avoid what has happened to us recently, which is conceding early goals. I think this is another challenge we need to overcome if we want to keep pushing towards our goals. Also, the morale boost of taking the lead in an away game—something we haven’t done in a while—would be huge for us."

"We will play as we always do: very offensively and as vertical as possible. We will press high, just like always. The game plan is the same, and the whole league knows it. Obviously, we will take risks, but that’s not a problem—we accept them. We want to play this way, we want to take the lead, and we want to get the three points."

"We must understand that, given our playing style, risks will always be there. Arenteiro's goal came from a loss of possession in our buildup that was avoidable, but in our approach, it is inevitable and will happen from time to time. We’ve focused on this defensive aspect, but in terms of improving our pressing. We don’t want to defend inside our box or close to our goal—we want to defend further up the pitch. If we concede, we want it to be because the opponent breaks through while we press them high. That’s why we need to be precise—it’s a cycle. If we improve offensively, we will allow fewer chances to the opponent, and things will get better and better for us."

"The team is clearly on an upward trend. It’s true that we struggle to keep clean sheets, but we are the team in this league that takes the most risks. Even so, we are conceding just about one goal per game, which is in line with the teams in the play-off spots. There are three or four teams with a big goal difference because they have scored a lot. Of course, we don’t want to concede goals, but what we really want is to score more—and that’s what we’re focusing on."

"If the opponent presses us and holds a high defensive line, there will be 50 meters of space behind them, and we don’t want to give that up. We want to be vertical, but we need to know when. If the opponent leaves us space, we must take advantage of it. If they sit deep, we’ll play more direct to attack them."

"[Josep Cerdà] has completed the week with some discomfort, but he will travel with us for the first time. Clearly, he has barely trained for the past two weeks, but he has completed the recent sessions normally and will be with us. He’s a very dynamic player, fully committed to the team, and has incredible performance levels, so having him available is great news."

"Obviously, all players need consistency to build confidence. The other day, Christos had a good game—he took on defenders one-on-one, was successful, and won fouls. We substituted him because he hadn’t played 90 minutes for a while, and we thought someone else could come in with a bit more 'punch.' As I’ve said before, we are very happy with him, and his frustration at being taken off is normal—he wanted to keep playing. That’s exactly the Christos we want to see."

"We need to channel that frustration into energy, excitement, passion, and hunger. The two shots that hit the crossbar the other day need to go in tomorrow. We have high-level attacking players, and we have complete trust in all of them—both starters and substitutes."

"Our goal is consolidation. It’s a matchday with a lot of direct clashes, but in this league, that’s always the case. There are always results that, in theory, might help or hurt you, but in reality, there is only one result that truly benefits us: our own victory. Regardless of the other matches, the most important thing is getting our three points."
